The Central Crossing High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Drill Team traveled to Daytona Beach, Fla., earlier this month to compete in the National High School Drill Team Championships.

The Central Crossing High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Drill Team traveled to Daytona Beach, Fla., earlier this month to compete in the National High School Drill Team Championships.

This was an all-service competition in which CCHS finished in fourth place in the nation.

The competition was among 47 JROTC units from across the country.

The Central Crossing team had second place finishes in the Armed Personnel Inspection and the Armed Regulation Drill events.

The drill team commander was Cadet Amberlyn Muncy, who also captured the second place Commander's Cup for her efforts.

Central Crossing High School's Senior Awards were recently presented in the auditorium.

Among the honors presented were the Ideal Senior Awards.

The process for choosing the recipients began with a group of 15 female and 15 male students nominated by teachers who felt they ideally represented the senior class of 2009.

The top five from each group were then interviewedby community members from outside the school system.

They chose the Ideal Male and Ideal Female Seniorsbased on attributessuch as academic achievement, community involvement, school activities, leadership and character, according to the announcement.

This year's awards were presented to Elizabeth Delozier, who will be attending the University of Cincinnati, and Adam Downing, who will be going to Ohio Northern University.
