Three candidates for Grove City Council Ward 3 and one candidate for the South-Western City Schools board of education have been pulled from the ballot by the Franklin County Board of Elections.

Three candidates for Grove City Council Ward 3 and one candidate for the South-Western City Schools board of education have been pulled from the ballot by the Franklin County Board of Elections.

Board of elections officials removed the candidates for improper filing information on petitions. The move leaves Ward 3 without any candidates, unless someone files as a write-in candidate.

Removed from the Ward 3 race were:

Current at-large councilman Michael Uhrin. Uhrin said board of elections officials told him that he did not completely write his last name on his petition.

Richard Rutherford. According to the board of elections, Rutherford did not stipulate that he is attempting to run for the Ward 3 seat. His candidacy was defaulted to council's at-large race.

Melissa Albright. She was removed for not adding a sponsoring committee to her petition, according to the board of elections.

Also, Charley Hale was removed from the candidacy list for the South-Western school board race.

According to the board of elections, Hale dated his candidacy for Nov. 11, 2009 instead of the correct date (Nov. 3, 2009).

Uhrin said he will appeal the decision or run as a write-in candidate.

"I'm going to be there the whole way, some way or another," Uhrin said.

Rutherford said he will look into have the decision changed. He would like to run for the Ward 3 seat, he added.

Albright and Hale could not be reached for comment Friday.

Residents have until Sept. 2 to file applications with the board of elections to run as write-in candidates.

Candidates who wish to appeal the decisions must contact the board of elections as soon as possible, said board of elections spokesman Ben Piscitelli.

Steven Bennett, Warren Gard and Rutherford are the current candidates for the council at-large race.

Ted Berry still will run unopposed for Ward 1.

The eight candidates validated by the board of elections for the Nov. 3 school board race are now Karen Dover, Randy Holt, Cathy Johnson, Greg McCarty, Jo Ellen Myers, Ed Palmer, Adam Slane and Rob Starrett.
