Grove City
Boso appoints deputy administrator
City administrator Chuck Boso appointed William Vedra Jr. as the city’s full-time deputy city administrator effective Feb. 7.
Mike Wasylik had previously worked part-time, 20 to 30 hours per week for both of those positions. Following a transition period, Wasylik will depart from the city, Boso said.
Boso said Wasylik was let go because the deputy city administrator position needed to be full-time. Performance didn't factor into the city's decision, Boso said.
Wasylik's last day at the city will be March 31, though Boso said Wasylik might be included in future city projects on a contractual basis.
Wasylik said he does not yet have future employment plans.
The city decided a full-time position was needed to fulfill responsibilities of the deputy city administrator and safety director, Boso said.
“It’s just a matter of workload,” he said.
On Feb. 6, city council adjusted the pay scales of the two posts in anticipation of someone performing them on a full-time basis.
Boso, who is acting as development director until the city fills that position, said the city is exploring how Vedra will assist in some of the city administrator responsibilities.
No timeline is set for the hiring of a new development director. In the interim, some department heads will answer to Vedra, who will work under Boso. If Boso is out of the city, Vedra will assume his responsibilities.
Vedra will make $31.25 per hour, or $65,000 per year. He will serve as full-time deputy city administrator, as well as full-time public safety director.
“Mr. Vedra brings a wealth of governmental experience to the city in the areas of strategic planning and community engagement. I’m confident he will be an important addition to our team,” said Boso in a written statement.
Vedra, who has lived in Grove City for 25 years, said he is “honored and humbled” to accept employment with the city.
“There’s a lot of evidence of great prosperity down here,” he said.
Vedra said his new position provides diverse opportunities.
He said looks forward to assisting the city in emergency and disaster planning, where he has experience.
