Wine, arts festival to debut at town center
Grove City will be able to sample products from six Ohio wineries during the first Wine and Arts Festival.
The Grove City Town Center Inc. and the Grove City Arts Council are holding the event, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 9 at the town center.
Town center coordinator Andy Furr said he has received positive feedback about the event.
"We've tried to market it very heavily," he said.
Of the six wineries, two are from central Ohio. Local musicians will provide music on the plaza. Arts and crafts vendors also will be on hand to sell their wares. Attendees may purchase food on site from food trucks.
Admission to the event is free. Those interested in sampling wine may purchase eight tasting tickets for $15. Attendees also may purchase wine by the bottle directly from the wineries.
Furr said the idea for the event was born out of his assistance in helping the arts council figure out logistics for holding a wine tasting during Grove City's Night on the Town event. When he contacted the first three to five licensed Ohio wineries, they responded "very enthusiastically," he said, so much so that when the arts council decided against holding the event, he thought it deserved additional consideration.
Furr sent 162 letters to wineries within the state to see if they were interested in participating in a wine-tasting event. He received 74 letters from interested wineries.
Although next year's event could include as many as eight wineries, for the initial run, Furr decided to stick with six.
"It's very comfortable," he said.
Furr said he anticipates good weather and a large crowd.
