Flags, Blast in town next two weekends
Grove City has a pair of patriotic events planned over the next week and a half.
Beginning Friday evening and continuing through Sunday, June 22-24, Grove City will host a 24-hour viewing of the second annual Ohio Flags of Honor at Henceroth Park, 2075 Mallow Lane Grove.
The traveling display is intended to facilitate fellowship among families, friends and communities while paying tribute to Ohio's fallen servicemen.
"This memorial tribute will help us remember our fallen and their families," Mayor Richard "Ike" Stage said in a statement about the event. "It is my hope with this tribute, our community will provide comfort to our heroes' families."
More than 400 full-size flags will be on display as part of the memorial honoring Ohio soldiers who gave their lives in Iraq, Afghanistan elsewhere.
A tribute dedicated to those servicemen will be held at the park on Saturday, June 25, at 10 a.m., and local veterans will assemble to raise awareness and support for Ohio's returning military.
The event will be held, rain or shine. Parking is available at Jackson Middle School and Buckeye Woods Elementary School.
Blast still at Beulah
Blast at Beulah will take place on Saturday, June 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Beulah Park, 3811 Southwest Blvd.
Regional band These Guys will provide free, live entertainment. Children's activities will start at 6 p.m.
Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. and will be simulcast on radio station Wink 107.1.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Vendors will be on site selling food; coolers and other carry-in items will be subject to searches. Tailgating, personal fireworks, alcohol, pop-up canopies and pets, except for service dogs, are not permitted in the paved parking areas.
Entry is free at the Park Street entrance. There is a $5 parking fee to park in the Beulah lot.
A special ceremony honoring military personnel will begin at 8 p.m.
Veterans and active duty servicemen can reserve a spot in the ceremony as well as a parking pass by calling 614-277-3015 by Thursday, June 28.
