Reconstruction work is scheduled to begin this week in Grove City on a portion of US Route 62/Broadway.

Beginning today, Aug. 2, the reconstruction of US 62/Broadway from Interstate 270 to Home Road will be under way.

The project, which is projected to cost nearly $450,000, is being contracted to Complete General Construction, a Columbus firm.

According to the city, the project involves replacing portions of the asphalt pavement on the southbound lane of Broadway, installing new concrete curbs and gutters, improving drainage, widening the northwest radius of the intersection, installing new street lights and upgrading the traffic signals.

Public Service Director Les Spring said the project has a projected completion date of Nov. 26.

"The pavement has failed there," Spring said. "It's very obvious when you go out there."

All the new pedestrian facilities will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Existing traffic signals utilizing span wires will be replaced with signals mounted on mast-arms with underground wiring.

"We started this (traffic signal replacement) program quite a few years ago," Spring said. "It's our standard everywhere. ... All of the old signals will be taken down."

Spring also said a contract is expected to follow shortly for landscaping and other features at the I-270 exit for motorists driving into Grove City to see.

"That'll be bid out next month," he said.

Traffic and access to all properties and businesses along the corridor impacted by the project are expected to remain open, but drivers are being told to expect lane closures and asked to use extra care driving in the construction zone.

Updates for the project will be posted online at the city's website, grovecityohio.gov, and on the city's Facebook page and Twitter account.
