For their new location in Grove City, the owners of Massey's Pizza are trying something a little different.

Massey's Pizza Sports Bar & Grille opened Monday, July 1, at 4015 Parkmead Drive.

"We wanted to put Massey's Pizza together with a sports bar," said Dave Pallone, who owns Massey's with his brother, Jed Pallone. "It's going to be a different concept."

While the focus will remain on pizza, the menu will include appetizers, salads, subs, burgers, chicken wings, beer, wine, a daily lunch buffet and more.

"Everybody seems to know the Massey's name," said Jed Pallone. "We call it the cadillac of pizza. We're adding another option to the cadillac."

In addition to the menu upgrades, the new restaurant comes with 33 52-inch flat-screen televisions, a 28-seat bar and an outdoor patio to create a more casual atmosphere.

"We kind of married the liquor business with the restaurant business," Jed Pallone said. "This is more of a family operation ... a fun atmosphere where everybody can get along together."

Dave Pallone said the goal is to go "above and beyond what anybody else in the business is doing."

"We expect a good experience when people come in to eat," he said.

In addition to their background in the pizza industry, the brothers have experience owning night clubs such as King Tut's and Screamin' Willies, and they have brought knowledge from those endeavors to the new sports bar, Jed Pallone said.

"People are going out to eat ... (and) staying for a beer or two," he said. "This is kind of the way social gatherings are going."

In the future, the Pallones said, they plan to open similar pizza and sports bar concepts elsewhere.

"This is something we're going to use as a protype," he said. "We're looking for the right opportunities."

Grove City, Dave Pallone said, felt like a good place to test it out.

"Grove City was an area we'd been interested in for a long time," he said. "It just seemed like the place to be."

"This location really fit the bill," Jed Pallone said.

Massey's Pizza Sports Bar & Grille is open from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
