In its first year back, Grove City's Little League proved it had some real all-stars.
Grove City's Little League North Team recently finished third place in the Ohio District 6 All-Star Tournament held July 5-12, at Bevelhymer Park in New Albany.
The team consists of players Logan Detty, Sam Stoll, Jayden Scala, Conner Estep, Joey Repeta, Josh Suttles, Trace Carter, Bryce Murray, Trevor Dennis, Daniel Ewald, Logan May and Nick Rettig; and coaches Paul Ewald, Greg Rettig and Mark Stoll.
"We were very proud," said Jack Widner, president Grove City's Little League board of directors.
"We were pleasantly surprised," said board treasurer Larry Thomas.
Little League returned to Grove City after a 35-year absence. The city previously had a charter from 1950 to 1978.
"We had a really nice season," Widner said. "It turned out a lot better than we thought it would be."
For the next year, Thomas and Widner said, they hope to attract more travel team players to the league. Travel teams, they said, take a lot of good players.
"I hope next year we'll be a little better, if not a lot better," Widner said.
Thomas also said Little League offers skills and life lessons for young ball players.
"Little League is so well known around the country and with the recognition it has, it's good for our city," Thomas said.
