The Southwest Community Leadership Program recently held its graduation ceremony at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City.
The program gives community members the chance to get an in-depth education about the community and its resources while developing leadership skills and working together to complete a class project. Ten members of the community graduated from the program this year.
The program, sponsored by the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce, runs for nine months during the year and includes classes on the history of Grove City, governmental issues, education, parks and recreation, leadership styles and team building. The class is required to complete a service project that benefits the community.
This year, the class renovated the baseball fields at Jackson and Norton middle schools, raising $6,752 in sponsorships and over $10,000 in materials and labor. They will continue the upkeep of these fields and have already begun the planning of a third field.
The 2013-2014 Southwest Leadership class is now accepting applications. Classes run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and start on Oct. 10. An open house for those interested in learning more about the program will be held at the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce office from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 12.
