Grove City's police division offers educational programs

The Grove City Division of Police is offering an Active Shooter Response Training class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Kingston Center, 3226 Kingston Ave.

The class is open to the public. Participants will learn about a variety of safety topics and basic survival skills. The training combines many facets of response to a hostile encounter, whether at work, school, church, shopping or any public location.

Participants must be age 18 by Sept. 15. A criminal record check is processed on each applicant; no one with an active warrant for arrest or a history of violent crimes is permitted. No weapons are permitted inside the training area. The cost is $5 per person. Class size is limited, so register early.

Participants can register by calling 614-277-3050, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. To register online, patrons must have an online ID. Detailed instructions on how to create an online ID are available on the website or by calling 614-277-3050 to establish an ID, during office hours.

Citizens Police Academy

The Grove City Division of Police is offering the fifth session of the Citizens Police Academy (CPA).

The CPA is a free 10-week course, held on Thursday evenings from Sept. 19 through Nov. 21. Registration is open to people who are 18 years old or older and who work or reside in Grove City or Jackson Township.

The program includes interactive classes and curriculum designed to give participants an understanding of police operations and procedures including laws, arrest situations, traffic enforcement and more. These topics are not intended to train participants as a police officer or serve as an extension for any criminal justice programs. The class size is limited to 15 students.

A criminal record and driving status check is processed on each applicant. The Grove City Division of Police reserves the right to deny acceptance to any applicant. Any student who misses more than two sessions will not graduate.

Application packets can be printed from the Grove City Division of Police website at police.grovecityohio.gov or picked up in person from the Safety Complex, located at 3360 Park St. Valid picture identification must be provided when returning the application.
