Jackson Township Division of Fire Deputy Chief Rick Dawson and Jackson Township Administrator Mike Lilly visited 20 second-grade students at J.C. Sommer Elementary School Nov. 6, to tell them about the anticipated opening of Fire Station 204 by the end of the year.
The new firehouse, off Buckeye Parkway in Grove City, is expected to open in December 2013 pending completion of final construction.
Station 204 will have a 9/11 Memorial complete with a World Trade Center steel I-beam recovered from Sept. 11, 2001 ashes. Students from Grove City High School, Jackson Middle School, Park Street Intermediate School and J.C. Sommer Elementary School will add items to a time capsule enclosed within the memorial and scheduled to be opened Sept. 11, 2063.
Dawson and Lilly told the J.C. Sommer students to draw pictures depicting life today, write a list of their favorite things and note what they think they will be doing 50 years from now.
The station's dedication will be held in April 2014.
