A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition at Nationwide Children’s Hospital after being shot in Grove City this morning, Nov. 22.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, suspect Danny Thornton, 47, reportedly shot the boy in the face at a residence at 2716 Independence Way, according to the Grove City Division of Police.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Thornton then shot a woman in a dentist’s chair at a dental office at 4409 Crossroads Center, off Hamilton Road in southeast Columbus, before being shot and killed by Columbus police in the parking lot of the Easton Walmart, 3900 Morse Road.

One Columbus police officer reportedly was hurt in the shootout while the woman shot at the dental office was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Hospital.

The shootout in Easton took place about 9:45 a.m.

Grove City Police Capt. Jeff Pearson said investigators have reason to believe the local boy is related to the suspect.

“It seems like he is a sibling of the suspect or a step-child of the suspect,” Pearson.

Pearson said the case is “still evolving.”

Highland Park Elementary, located at 2600 Cameron St., less half a mile from where the boy was shot, was put under “stay put order,” allowing no children outside, according to 10TV News reported.
