SWCSD urges seniors to apply for foundation scholarships

High school seniors at South-Western City School District are encouraged to apply now for scholarships awarded by the South-Western City Schools Educational Foundation (SWCSEF) for post-secondary education.

Since 1988 the Foundation has awarded more than $800,000 in scholarships to district seniors. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is Friday, March 21. Applications are available at the Foundation website, swcsef.org.

All students who have a weighted grade point average of 3.0 or higher and are in the top 25 percent of their class are encouraged to apply. Last year, 86 students received scholarships from the SWCSEF.

Scholarships of $500-$2,500 will be awarded. The foundation board of trustees expects to award about $70,000 in scholarships this year.

The foundation exists to raise funds for student scholarships and educational grants for district teachers who propose innovative programs to enhance the learning experiences of the district's more than 20,000 children.

Programs of the foundation are funded by both corporate and individual donors.
