Columbus Division of Fire Inspector Virgil Moore received the Sons of the American Revolution 2014 Fire Fighter Award from the SAR's Benjamin Franklin Chapter.
The award to the Grove City resident was made posthumously because Inspector Moore died unexpectedly in early February. Accepting the award on his behalf were his daughters Taylor and Kaylie.
Inspector Moore was recognized by the SAR for his dedicated work inspecting above-ground tanks of propane and other fuels to ensure that they were not a threat to public safety. His responsibilities included the food-vending push carts that use fuel tanks for cooking.
Inspector Moore was known as "The Pyro Guy" within the Division of Fire because of his expertise with pyrotechnics. He and his team were responsible for the safety of Red, White, and Boom and other fireworks displays in Columbus.
Moore was involved with the Special Olympics, volunteering to work as a chauffeur each year.
