Gina Perry has returned to her geographic and artistic roots.

"I'm getting away from the computer," she said. "I'm getting back to my roots in the fine arts."

Perry, owner of the Creative Clinic Center, grew up in Grove City before moving to Circleville when she was 14. In 1994, she graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design, where she has also taught, with a degree in fine arts. She worked for a time in Dayton, specializing in graphic design and commercial art, but returned to her hometown 12 years ago and has been freelancing for the past 11.

Now, through a partnership between the Creative Clinic Center and other Grove City businesses, including the Garden Cafe on Broadway and Fiesta Mariachi, Perry is offering Paint Mixers. These events combine guided instruction in painting with the opportunity to socialize.

"I stand up in front of the crowd and give them a play-by-play of how to do the painting," Perry said. "We set up the easels, canvases and paint for them."

Among the subjects painted at the mixers are landscapes, trees, birds and wine glasses.

"We do all different types of things," Perry said. "I try to keep what we paint simple."

No artistic experience is needed to attend a Paint Mixer. The point, Perry said, is to have fun in a relaxing, playful and upbeat environment. It's also a chance to "unplug."

"I think people really want to get away from the TV, cellphones and iPhones," Perry said. "It's like something they needed and didn't realize it until they got away from it all. ... It's just something different."

In addition to giving people a new creative outlet, Perry said the Paint Mixers helps support the host businesses.

"It's kind of a win-win," she said. "Anything I can do to help (Grove City businesses) out."

Tickets are $35 per person and include the two-hour event and all art supplies, including a 16-by-20 canvas. Drinks and food are purchased separately. Seating is limited.

The Creative Clinic Center will not only have a booth on display at the Wine & Arts Festival June 14 in the Grove City Town Center, it will be offering two classes that day, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Venue 62, 3995 Broadway.
