The Grove City High School girls volleyball team opened the Division I district tournament Oct. 16 at home with a 25-16, 25-18, 25-14 win over Marysville.

The 11th-seeded Greyhounds then beat Dublin Scioto 25-17, 30-28, 25-15 in the second round Oct. 18 at home.

Grove City was 18-6 entering a district semifinal against third-seeded Westerville Central at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Big Walnut. The winner will play sixth-seeded Gahanna or Chillicothe in a district final at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Big Walnut.

The district champion will play in a regional semifinal Nov. 1 at Hilliard Davidson.

"We ended the season playing well, winning all three matches at the Pickerington North Invitational (on Oct. 13) and going 9-2 in the second half of the season," coach Alan Pham said. "We're looking to maintain that momentum."

Central Crossing lost to host Lancaster 25-21, 25-18, 25-16 in the first round of the district tournament to finish 4-19.

"(When) we played at Lancaster for our tournament game, our seniors showed great leadership that night and we dropped a hard-fought game to Lancaster, unfortunately," coach Julie Evans said. "It was a competitive match and the girls gave a great effort."
