Softball team reaches district title game

Ready senior Austin Vrancken won his first two matches before falling in a quarterfinal at the Division II sectional boys tennis tournament, which concluded May 16 at Columbus Academy. The season ended for the Silver Knights as no players advanced to district.

Despite receiving the 16th seed among 20 teams for the Division III district tournament, the Ready High School softball team reached a district final.

The Silver Knights got a solo home run by senior Sammy Hawkins (3B) in the fifth inning and a three-hit shutout by junior pitcher Julia Hall to upset third-seeded and host Northridge 4-0 on May 15 in a second-round game.

On May 20, Ready defeated fourth-seeded Liberty Union 15-2 in five inning in a semifinal at Pickerington North.

The Silver Knights will play fifth-seeded North Union in a final at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Pickerington Central. North Union scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat second-seeded Heath 7-6.

The district champion will play Brookville, Arcanum, Reading or Felicity-Franklin in a regional semifinal Wednesday, May 29, at Wright State. The regional final is June 1 at Wright State.

Ready also beat Lakewood 11-4 in a non-league game May 17 and is 12-15 overall.

The Silver Knights have won seven of their last 10 games, including a 9-8 win over Northridge on May 4. They lost to Delaware, which was the top seed in Division I, 3-2 on May 4 and 5-4 on May 13.

Boys track team third in CCL meet

The boys track and field team scored 79 points to edge Hartley (77) and Watterson (74) for third in the CCL meet May 16 and 18 at Columbus School for Girls behind St. Charles (175) and DeSales (81).

Winning titles for the Silver Knights were Daniel Perry in the 800 meters (1 minute, 59.4 seconds) and Taron Slone in the 100 (11.0) and 200 (22.2). Cody Platter was runner-up in the 1,600 (4:37.5), and Jonas Wahl was third in the 110 hurdles (16.0) and high jump (6 feet) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (44.1).

The boys are competing in the Division II, district 1 meet, which was held May 21 and 22 and concludes Saturday, May 25, at Westerville South. The top four in each event advance to the regional May 30 and June 1 at Lexington.

Girls track team last in league

The girls track team scored 55 points to finish last in the CCL meet behind DeSales (114), CSG (112), Watterson (105) and Hartley (102).

Carly Culbertson was fourth in the 100 (12.9) and 200 (26.6), Courtney Bair placed third in the 1,600 (5:37.2), Kathleen Colvin took third in the 3,200 (12:42), Alli Schroeder was third in the 100 hurdles (16.6) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (49.8) and Abigail Whitehead was second in the long jump (14-9 1/2).

The girls also are competing in the Division II, district 1 meet.

Baseball team falls in second round

The fourth-seeded baseball team was upset by 10th-seeded Heath 6-3 in the second round of the Division III district tournament May 16.

The game was tied at 3 heading into the seventh, but the Bulldogs scored three times off senior starting pitcher Mitch McNabb.

Ready finished 12-13.

Boys tennis season ends at sectional

The boys tennis team's season ended in the Division II sectional tournament May 16 at Columbus Academy.

Senior Austin Vrancken won his first two matches but lost to Worthington Christian's Joel Montgomery 6-1, 6-0 in a quarterfinal. Also in singles, senior Nick Berner lost in the second round and senior Scott Knapke fell in the first round.

In doubles, seniors Kris Clarke and Michael Pozz lost in the second round and seniors Tyler Eggers and Spencer Heselden lost in the first round.
