The Grove City and Central Crossing high school boys golf teams will compete in the 13-team Division I sectional tournament Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Darby Creek.

The Grove City and Central Crossing high school boys golf teams will compete in the 13-team Division I sectional tournament Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Darby Creek.

The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team advance to district Oct. 8 at Apple Valley. Last season, neither the Greyhounds nor the Comets advanced to district as a team, but 2013 Grove City graduate Andrew Ray advanced individually and went on to shoot a 96 at district.

"Right now, we have the single goal of working to get better and playing our best golf at sectionals," coach Eric Joreski said. "This group of players is driven to get out of sectionals."

Grove City concluded the four-round OCC-Ohio Division tournament by shooting a 319 on Sept. 11 at Apple Valley to finish third behind Pickerington North (299) and Gahanna (318).

The Greyhounds also finished third (17-7) in the league standings, behind North (24-0) and Gahanna (18-6) and ahead of Lancaster (12-12), Pickerington Central (9-15), Reynoldsburg (4-20) and Newark (0-24).

Gavin Gensler had a team-best 77.8-stroke average and made second-team all-league along with Jake Faught (78). Corey Owen (81.3) and Josh Willis (85.3) made third-team all-league and Robbie Hill (85.7) was honorable mention all-league.

"This is a team (that) is never satisfied," Joreski said. "If someone shoots a 75, the first thing they talk about is how they could have saved a stroke or two in certain situations. They are continually working to get better. I cannot be prouder of how hard they work and the amount of time they put into their games."

Central Crossing shot a 361 in the final round of the OCC-Central tournament Sept. 16 at Turnberry to place seventh behind champion Dublin Coffman (302).

The Comets also finished seventh (4-24) in the league, behind Coffman (28-0), Upper Arlington (23-5), Olentangy Liberty (19-9), Marysville (15-13), Hilliard Davidson (13-15) and Thomas Worthington (10-18) and ahead of Westland (0-28).

Nick Jones made honorable mention all-league with a team-best 81.75 average. Bryce Hand (87.5) was next for the Comets, followed by Andrew Russell (88), Drake Sidner (89) and Brock Casey (94.3).

The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team advance to district Oct. 8 at The Links at Groveport.

Sakura Sip and Makenzie Torres competed in the same sectional last year as individuals, with both shooting a 91 to finish two strokes behind the final district qualifier, Westerville Central's Ana Borish (89).

Grove City shot a 378 in the fourth and final round of the OCC-Capital tournament Sept. 10 at Westchester to place sixth behind champion Coffman (291). The Greyhounds finished seventh (9-23) in the league behind champion Coffman (32-0).
