The Grove City High School boys basketball team will look for a season sweep of Franklin Heights when it plays host to the Falcons in the second round of the Division I district tournament Friday, Feb. 28.
The 12th-seeded Greyhounds had a first-round bye.
Franklin Heights, which is seeded 23rd, defeated 31st-seeded Mount Vernon 60-36 in the first round Feb. 22. Akiean Frederick led the Falcons with 23 points.
Grove City defeated Franklin Heights 72-67 on Dec. 27 at home. Nick Bapst scored 23 points, Tyler Dunn had 16 and Scottie Luchini added 12 for the Greyhounds, and Frederick scored 21 points for the Falcons.
The winner plays third-seeded Upper Arlington or 30th-seeded Olentangy in a district semifinal Wednesday, March 5, at Marysville, with the winner advancing to a district final March 8 at the Fairgrounds Coliseum against second-seeded Gahanna, 19th-seeded Groveport, 27th-seeded St. Charles or 39th-seeded Logan.
Grove City improved to 16-6 by defeating Central Crossing 83-58 on Feb. 18 at home in the regular-season finale. Nick Bapst scored 22 points, Drew Bapst had 13 and Dunn added 11.
Central Crossing loses tournament opener
Central Crossing lost at fifth-seeded Newark 82-46 in the first round of the district tournament Feb. 21.
The Wildcats, who led 38-16 at halftime, improved to 18-4 before playing 37th-seeded Westland in the second round Feb. 26.
The 43rd-seeded Comets finished 4-19. Marc Russell led Central Crossing with 12 points and Anthony Thompson scored 10.
Russell scored 18 points and Thompson and Andrew Russell each scored 10 in the loss at Grove City.
