Boys basketball team falls in tourney opener

The Grove City Christian School boys basketball team saw its season end with an 83-81 loss to visiting Morral Ridgedale in the first round of the Division IV district tournament Feb. 21.

The Eagles finished 9-14 overall and 4-6 in the MSL-Cardinal Division.

Ridgedale connected on 15 of 20 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to hold off 10th-seeded Grove City Christian.

Michael Howard led the Eagles with 23 points. Ben Aulick scored 22 and Matt Bailey added 12.

The 13th-seeded Rockets improved to 10-13 and played at eighth-seeded Tree of Life in the second round Feb. 26.

Girls basketball team loses in first round

The 14th-seeded girls basketball team lost at fifth-seeded Granville Christian 57-42 in the first round of the Division IV district tournament Feb. 15.

The Eagles finished 9-14 overall and 3-5 in the MSL-Cardinal.

Granville Christian led 27-17 at halftime and remained in control in the second half.

Lisa Zeller scored 15 points for the Eagles. Baily Graves and Olivia Nester added eight points apiece.

Granville Christian went on to defeat 11th-seeded Northside Christian 67-30 in the second round Feb. 20 to improve to 18-5. It plays third-seeded Danville in a semifinal Thursday, Feb. 27, at Westerville North.
