Grove City Christian Roundup

Softball team starting to turn around season

After losing its first five games, the Grove City Christian School softball team has started to gain some momentum.

The Eagles won four of their next five and were 4-6 overall and 3-2 in the MSL-Cardinal Division after defeating Fairfield Christian 18-5 in five innings April 21 and before playing non-league Watterson on April 22.

Grove City Christian defeated Fairfield Christian 14-10 on April 17 at home.

"We're getting better," coach Troy Tomlinson said. "We lost our first five then we won two and then we split (April 19) with Hamilton Township."

The Eagles lost the first game at Hamilton Township 12-5 and won the second game 12-4.

Through nine games, Andi Abbruzzese led the team in hitting at .581, followed by Olivia Frank (.538), Grace Tomlinson (.517) and Michelina Frank (.444).

Abbruzzese was sharing pitching duties with Tomlinson and Olivia Frank before dislocating the right thumb on her pitching hand in a game against London on April 5. Abbruzzese has continued to play shortstop.

Olivia Frank was 3-0 with 2.77 ERA in 17 innings.

Baseball team looking to become consistent

The baseball team was 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the MSL-Cardinal after defeating Fairfield Christian 3-2 on April 21 and before playing non-league Tree of Life on April 22.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak.

"We are improving, but need to find mental consistencies because the little mistakes are what have hurt us -- small mental errors that add up for big innings," coach A.J. McCampbell said. "Overall, I'm pleased with the team currently. They battle every game and have never given up."

Through nine games, Michael Howard was hitting .565 with three home runs, 13 RBI and 11 runs, and pitcher Tanner Buhrts was 3-0.

Track teams compete at Westfall

The track and field teams competed in a tri-meet April 11 at Williamsport Westfall.

The boys were third (62 points) behind Logan Elm (254) and Westfall (139) as Tre Roberts won the 100 meters (11.6 seconds) and 200 (24.1).

The girls were third (37) behind Westfall (212) and Logan Elm (185) as Emma Baker won the 300 hurdles (57.1).
