The Hilliard-based Touch of Sun Tanning salon chain was recently converted to the LA Tan brand.

Touch of Sun operated two Hilliard locations, one at Roberts and Hilliard Rome roads and one at Mill Run Plaza.

With these two new locations, LA Tan now has 13 locations in the Columbus market.

Main Street Mergers & Acquisitions facilitated the sale last fall. Main Street M&A President J.W. Kline said LA Tan was looking to acquire sites in Columbus.

"We looked at a number of sites, at small chains in Hilliard and Columbus. Based on their criteria, the best match was Touch of Sun in Hilliard," Kline said.

The purchase was official back in October, but only recently has there been any visual signs of the change.

"Most of the conversions happened about two weeks ago at the Hilliard-Rome location," Kline said. In that time, all the equipment was upgraded in the Mill Run location, but the store still awaits new signage.

Hillary German, manager of the Mill Run Plaza location, said the acquisition is a positive thing.

"A lot of people like it now just because it's a little more professional," she said. "It's a corporately owned business instead of private owned, so it's a little more organized."

Kline said no employees of Touch of Sun have lost their jobs due to the acquisition.

German confirmed that.

"Most of the girls are still here now," she said.

Kline says the acquisition will be good for the community.

"I think they'll find a larger variety of tanning products and equipment they use," he said. "There are a lot of other locations. If you're a member of one, you can use them all."

Multiple calls to the LA Tan corporate office were not returned.
