The Carnegie Gallery at the Columbus Metropolitan Library's downtown branch is featuring art work by 14 students and recent graduates of Hilliard Davidson High School.

The exhibit is titled "(Un)real." It is being presented by Friends of the Library and will run until July 25.

Davidson art teacher Dan Gerdeman said the show's title comes from the fact he asked each student to submit one realistic-looking photo or drawing.

Stephanie Rond, Friends of the Library (FOL) gallery director, said FOL helps develop ties between the community and the library through different activities and programs.

She said she linked up with Hilliard Davidson through Gerdeman.

"I assumed his kids' work would be fabulous because his work was fabulous, and I was right," she said.

The show consists of 48 pieces, including photography, inkjet on glass and graphite on paper.

Gerdeman said the work was done by 14 students. All were seniors with the exception of one junior, he said, and all were in his senior portfolio class.

The course is designed to help students put together a body of work that will help them get into college.

He said when he heard the offer from FOL, he decided every student would have to display work, or none of them would.

Each student accepted the offer.

He said this type of exposure for the students was "just an honor."

Gerdeman said this is the most decorated class he's taught in 15 years. "Four of the students were honored at Carnegie Hall in New York City at the National Scholastic Awards Show," he said.

He added most of the students have been offered scholarships in fine art and art education around the state and country.

One of the students, 2008 graduate Gwyneth Ambrose, said, "It's just amazing having your art there where everyone can see it, and not just in the back of your room somewhere collecting dust."

The other students are Rachael Griffin, Skye Dalrymple, Kathryn Wilkinson, Sarah Peitch, Mandy Sibivieh, Nick Reichard, Carla Beach, Courtney Beachy, Jackie Cline, Carolyn Slebodnik, Matt Miculka, Erinn Fowler and Kevin Shannon.
