As part of a green initiative, the Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department has announced it will discontinue the practice of mailing its informational brochures to residents.

"The department is going green and brochures will not be mailed this year," said Beth Simon, recreation supervisor. "They are available on line at www.cityofhilliard.com or patrons can pick one up at the community center."

Simon said there will be four brochures in the next 12 months, including editions for winter programs, pool information, spring/ summer programs and fall programs.

Simon noted the winter and the municipal pool brochures are currently available.

Simon said the Recreation and Parks Department has been busy planning new winter programs for the community.

Registration for those programs begins Dec.1.

"Patrons can register online if they have verified their residency or they can stop in the Community Center during open hours," she said.

Among the new programs are 10 new preschool programs, nine new school age programs and 17 new adult programs.

The recreation and parks department has also announced a new "Blue Splash Special" for discounted pool memberships from January through March 16, 2009. Interested parties can register by mail or in person at the Community Center.

A new military pool discount of 10 percent off for active duty personnel and their immediate family members is also being offered.

As an additional benefit to pool members, each household may add up to two additional guests to their membership package.

Add-on guests are attached to the primary household for which the membership was purchased.

Only city and school district residents have the add-on opportunity.

The primary household member(s) must meet the residency requirements to receive Hilliard City or Hilliard School District rates.
