Hilliard City Council incumbents Kelly McGivern and Brett Sciotto along with newcomers Jim Ashenhurst and Stephanie Kunze have won Franklin County Republican Central Committee endorsements for the May 5 partisan primary, ThisWeek has learned.

Challengers Doug Jackson and Heather Keck were not endorsed.

The candidates are vying for four open seats on Hilliard City Council. The top four will advance to the general election where they will face Meagen Lynn Pandey, the lone Democrat to file.

Susan M. Bogan, a member of the GOP central committee's screening committee, announced the endorsements in a Friday afternoon e-mail to the candidates.

Other members of the screening committee included Hilliard City Council members Tim Roberts, Kim Allison and Sciotto, a candidate for re-election himself.

"Since all four of us have successfully run for council at one point or another, we understand the time and energy it takes to run and then govern effectively," Bogan wrote in her message to the candidates. "After deliberating over each candidate, the committee has collectively chosen Jim Ashenhurst, Stephanie Kunze, Kelly McGivern and Brett Sciotto to receive the endorsement of the Franklin County Republican Central Committee."
