ThisWeek Hilliard has won the Best in Ohio Award for Best Non-Daily Community Newspaper in the state.

The honor was announced June 19 at the Press Club of Cleveland's 2009 Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards dinner at the Key Center Marriott in downtown Cleveland.

Overall, ThisWeek Community Newspapers staff members collected 15 Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards.

"This is a good newspaper that has the right mixture of hard news, features and the ability to cover the big story," the judges said in recognizing ThisWeek Hilliard.

Hilliard Community Editor Jeff Donahue said the award was a tribute to the work of the ThisWeek Hilliard team.

"This is a great honor for the staff of ThisWeek Hilliard," Donahue said. "This award recognizes the dedication of our entire team and the overall quality of our newspaper. To be named the Best Non-Daily Community Newspaper in Ohio is a great honor."

Donahue and Cathy Wogan, who reports on Hilliard schools, are the primary news reporters. Amy Lyle, ThisWeek's design editor, designs the news pages. Scott Hennen designs the Hilliard sports pages.
