The holiday won't affect trash pick-up in Hilliard next week, the first week with Rumpke as the city's new hauler.

"Trash will be picked up on the normal trash day for the week of July 4th as the Holiday does not fall on a Hilliard service day," said Hilliard Director of Public Service Clyde Seidle.

"Hilliard's waste, recycling and yard waste will be collected on the same day(s) as it has been in the past," said Rumpke spokesman Jonathan Kissell. "Rumpke will maintain the same collection schedule as Hilliard's previous hauler (Local Waste). Collection throughout the City will occur on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday."

All trash, recycling and yard was must be placed out at the curb or designated location for collection before 7 a.m. on your normal collection day.

Rumpke observes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas as holidays. "If the holiday falls on or before the service day, collection will be delayed one day during that week," Kissell said. "Rumpke will return to its regular schedule the following week."

Seidle said there will be new billing rates in effect from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011: Single Family Residence $7.20 per month billed annually at $86.40 per year; and Senior Discount with verification $6.50 per month billed annually at $78 per year.

In a mailer that will be sent to residents, Rumpke asks that "all trash must be secured in bags or cans. Cardboard containers may be used for bulky or loose materials. Each container must weigh less than 50 pounds, and wet cardboard containers may not be collected. Residents may rent a 96-gallon waste wheeler from Rumpke for an additional charge."

Each residence will receive an 18-gallon recycling bin. Recyclable materials include paper products (except tissues and napkins), empty plastic bottles (caps removed), glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans (aerosol tips removed).

"Rumpke is excited to provide service for Hilliard residents," said Vice President Andrew Rumpke. "We look forward to becoming a familiar face in the community. Hilliard's council and city officials have been very helpful during the transition. We appreciate their support."
