Do you have an opinion on what Hilliard's signature event should be?

Do you have an opinion on what Hilliard's signature event should be?

If so, then Destination Hilliard would like to hear from you.

Destination Hilliard, the organization charged with promoting the city, has put together a short, confidential eight-question survey on the SurveyMonkey website. The Internet address is: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W9Q873R

The first question asks, "What is Hilliard best known for?" by ranking the categories of Arts and Music, Heritage, Agriculture, Rails to Trails, Sports, and Parks.

Second is, "What events in Hilliard have you attended the last two years? Please check all that apply," and lists the 4th of July Festivities, Old Hilliardfest, Fall Festival, Hilliard Arts Council Summer Concert Series, Franklin County Fair, Heritage Days, City of Hilliard Tree Lighting, Hilliard Arts Council Theatre Productions, Farmers Market, and Other.

The survey next asks, "What is your favorite event? Why?" and then, "What type of events would you like to see planned for Hilliard? Please check all that apply. Art & Music, Equestrian, Agriculture, Healthy Living, Other (specify)."

Then the survey asks, "What event either listed above or not, would you like to see become Hilliard's signature event?"

"Currently, Hilliard has a number of successful events thanks to a lot of hard work and creativity on the individuals who plan them," said Christy Clark, Destination Hilliard executive director. "Destination Hilliard wants to build on this foundation through a public input process. We are hoping a good number of individuals will take a few minutes to complete the survey. This is an opportunity for residents to define their own celebrations."

"Dublin has its Irish Festival and Circleville has its Pumpkin Show," said Destination Hilliard trustee Doug Lessells. "Do we (Hilliard) have something like that that can be all-encompassing? I don't know that we know yet, but we sure want to find out. We don't want to miss anything."

Lessells said a signature event for Hilliard could end up being something that currently exists, or it could be something new that citizens and businesses suggest. Destination Hilliard would then work to promote the event throughout central Ohio, the state, and regionally.

A steering committee will review the survey results for planning and promotional purposes. The deadline to complete the survey is next Thursday, Nov. 4.
