They will be assisted by members of various scout troops and the Norwich Township Fire Department.

On Memorial Day, the U.S. Flag will be lowered to half staff at the Post on Walcutt Road by the color guard at 10 a.m. The color guard will then proceed to Wesley Chapel Cemetery to perform the same task there and to assist with the services at 11 a.m.

The VFW Post will retrieve the flags from the graves at 2 p.m. June 1.

The Hilliard Darby High School Symphonic Choir will perform in Washington, D.C., as part of the annual National Memorial Day Choral Festival at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts during the Memorial Day weekend.

The 80-member group includes students of all grade levels and is under the direction of Michael Martin. They were invited to perform by Dr. Craig Jessop, dean of the School of Music at Utah State University, and will be performing with two other high school groups and the U.S. Army Orchestra.

The hour-long performance includes music by John Williams, Robert Russell Bennet, Mack Wildberg and Howard Hansen. The program features patriotic music such as "America the Beautiful" and "God Bless America" to honor veterans.

The choir will also be featured in the National Memorial Day Parade and a Veterans Tribute at Arlington National Cemetery. The performances begin in Washington, D.C., on May 29.

In addition, choirs at both Hilliard Bradley and Darby high schools recently received "Superior" ratings (the highest possible) in state level competition. The Hilliard Bradley Women's Chorale performed in Class B and the Symphonic Choir in Class A while the Hilliard Darby Women's Chorale and Symphonic Choir both performed in Class AA. Classes are decided by the difficultly of both the prepared and sight reading music being performed.

ofHuman, a local rock group from the Hilliard School District, will hold a CD release party/concert sponsored by 99.7 The Blitz at 7 p.m. Friday, May 27, at The Bluestone, 583 E. Broad St.

The group was recently signed to Cleveland-based record label Crushtone Music. ofHuman's debut was produced by Jim Wirt, whose credits include Incubus and Fiona Apple.

Tickets cost $12, or $15 day of show.

SWACO's Franklin County landfill and administrative offices will be closed Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.

The landfill at 3851 London-Groveport Road will be open from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 28. SWACO's 225 drop-off recycling locations will be open to residents throughout the entire holiday weekend.

To access the landfill from eastbound state Route 665, follow the detour to I-71 North and take Exit 97.
