For the first time in years, the Franklin County Fairgrounds will hold a flea market in the Edwards Building from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28.

Got something to sell? A table in a 10-foot-by-10-foot space rents for $25. And admission is only $1 for bargain hunters.

Emily Gabriel, president of the Franklin County Agricultural Society's board of directors, said this is the first flea market to take place at the fairgrounds in 15 or 20 years.

"We were discussing options for uses of our buildings at different times of the year besides the fair and our normal rentals," Gabriel said. "One thing that was brought up was that there was a lack of facilities for indoor flea markets in the winter months and (we) thought it would be worth a try. There has been some word of mouth interest."

Vendors can start setting up as early as 7 a.m. No pre-registration is required. Gabriel said anything can be sold as long as it's family friendly.

The plan is to have an additional flea market on Feb. 26, Gabriel said. If there is a decent turnout, additional flea markets will take place the last Saturdays in March and April.

The Franklin County Fairgrounds tries to hold as many events as possible.

"We're operating 365 days a year," Gabriel said. "We have constant events going on, people renting the spaces. It's not just our livestock facilities. We have everything from building and material auctions to the Three Bags Full (children's consignment sales). We do individual parties, (wedding) receptions, and conventions, dog training and parties ."
