U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers (R-Columbus) has nominated 18 high school students to attend the service academies, including three from Hilliard.

U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers (R-Columbus) has nominated 18 high school students to attend the service academies, including three from Hilliard.

Eric Dolan, Brandon Russell, and William Weiant were among the nominees attending a reception held by Stivers Jan. 26 at One Mill Run.

Dolan, the son of Cheryl and Ray Dolan of Hilliard, was nominated by Stivers to the United States Air Force Academy. He is the son of Cheryl and Ray Dolan of Hilliard. A senior at Davidson High School, he has distinguished himself by serving as a Buckeye Boys State delegate and scholar athlete. He is a member of his school's cross country and track and field teams and is active with the senior choir and Davidson Madrigals.

Additionally, he participates in the Davidson Faith Youth Group and is a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Russell was nominated by Stivers to the Air Force Academy. He is the son of Joseph and Dawn Russell of Hilliard and a senior at Davidson. He has distinguished himself through his artistic talent and his participation in church league softball and basketball. He volunteers at the Second and Seven Football Camp and is a leader of his church's youth group.

Weiant was nominated to the United States Military Academy. The son of Chip and Anne Weiant of Hilliard, he is a senior at Davidson. He has distinguished himself by serving as senior captain of the Hilliard Rugby Football Club and participating as a cellist in the Hilliard Davidson Chamber Orchestra.

He is a student leader in the "Faith" high school Bible study and youth group.

In pursuit of this nomination, Dolan, Russell and Weiant submitted an application and were interviewed by U.S. Rep. Stivers' Military Academy Review Board. The board evaluated the finalist candidates on the bases of academic performance, leadership ability, and community involvement.

In addition to the three Hilliard students, the nominees this year are from Worthington, Dublin, Marysville, Columbus, Galloway and Upper Arlington.

Stivers, a candidate must be an unmarried resident of Ohio's 15th Congressional District, a United States citizen, and between the ages of 17 and 23.
