Beggars Night

slated Oct. 31

Beggars Night in Hilliard will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Some recommendations for safety from the Hilliard Division of Police include:

* Always have a parent or guardian escort a child.

* Do not wear tight clothing or a mask that obstructs view.

* Take a flashlight and wear reflective clothing.

* Never go inside a house and never approach strangers in automobiles.

* Do not eat any candy that looks suspicious or appears to have tampered wrapping.

Thespians to collect

for food pantry

Thespian troupes from all three Hilliard high schools will team up on Beggars Night in Hilliard to combat hunger.

They will participate in the "Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat Program," a national community service program of the International Thespian Society.

Collected food will benefit the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

Costume 5K run

planned Oct. 27

Hoffman Trails Elementary School will host the Trick-or-Trot 5K Family Run at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

Participants are encouraged to dress in costume for the race.

The event benefits the Cody Jewell Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Julie Caserta, a Hilliard teacher, established the fund in memory of Jewell, who in September 2010 was struck and killed by a car on Scioto Darby Road while waiting for a school bus.

Registration for the 5K begins at 8:45 a.m. Oct. 27 at Hoffman Trails Elementary School, 4301 Hoffman Farms Drive in Hilliard.
