Davidson to host activity day this weekend
Hilliard Davidson High School, 5100 Davidson Road, will host "Wildcat Excellent Adventure" from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 3.
The event is designed to showcase extracurricular activities offered at the district's high schools, middle schools and elementary schools. It also functions as a fundraiser for charity and will be the site of a nonperishable food drive for the Hilliard Food Pantry.
"The big emphasis is on showcasing all our community and schools have to offer," said parent Kathleen Chrysler, who helped plan and promote the event.
Davidson Athletics Director Mark Princehorn originated the idea to promote unity between the various student and parent organizations, and show an appreciation of how each brings something positive to Davidson, Chrysler said.
Davidson Principal John Bandow also attended planning meetings and supports the effort.
"The teachers have been extremely supportive, helping with getting the students involved and donating their own time to plan and carry out the event," Chrysler said.
The event includes a pancake breakfast, prepared by Katie's Pancakes, to benefit the music boosters, athletics boosters, drama boosters and the Davidson PTO.
Advance tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Day-of-event tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children.
Members of Davidson's Interact Club, Key Club, Renaissance Club, Art Club and Culinary Arts Club will provide a variety of demonstrations.
Other demonstrations include pottery making, engineering demonstrations, art exhibits and a fashion show.
Performers include the Davidson Chamber Orchestra, the Davidson choirs, the Britton Elementary School choir, the Tharp Sixth Grade School strings and band, the Weaver Middle School band and orchestra, the Giggle Factory, the Davidson Jazz Band, the Avery Elementary School choir and drama, the Norwich Elementary School drummers and the Washington Elementary School fifth-grade folk dancers.
Davidson's theater department also will perform short vignettes.
The event will incorporate a wrestling mini-camp for which there is a $5 fee.
Events at the school's gymnasium include a meet-and-greet with the girls' basketball team. Children also can practice with the team.
The boys team will hold an open practice.
Ping pong, simulated cattle roping, bean-bag toss games and other activities will be held in the auxiliary gymnasium.
