Tribute concert for Brennemans will benefit arts center

By

The Hilliard Arts Council will honor Ken and Robin Brenneman with a benefit concert to aid the planned Hilliard Civic and Cultural Arts Center.

A Tribute to Ken and Robin Brenneman: Five Decades of Hilliard Performing Arts will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Hilliard Davidson High School Performing Arts Center, 5100 Davidson Road.

Proceeds will go into a capital fund to build a community performing arts center, which has been a longtime vision of the Brennemans.

"Ken and Robin have truly been the centerpiece of the arts in the Hilliard community for the past five decades," said Donnette Calhoon, a retired Hilliard educator and co-chair of the capital campaign for the arts center. "It is only befitting that this evening will honor them in grand style and that all proceeds of the show will be gifted to the Hilliard Civic and Cultural Arts Center campaign in their names."

Since the founding of the Hilliard Arts Council 37 years ago, the community theater group has performed at high schools or is required to rent or lease commercial studio space.

The arts center would be in Hilliard Station Park, a park planned at the intersection of Main and Center streets in Old Hilliard, where a trio of grain silos were demolished in 2009.

The show will feature performances of theater and choir alumni from Hilliard Davidson High School and the Hilliard Arts Council, all of whom were directed during parts of the last five decades by Ken or Robin Brenneman.

Scheduled performers include Jessica Grove, a Davidson graduate who began her professional career when she was cast as Dorothy in a Wizard of Oz performance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Grove has continued her career in starring roles in other Broadway productions, including Les Miserables, Thoroughly Modern Millie, A Little Night Music and Sunday in the Park with George.

Two others on the schedule, Clint Carter, a Darby High School graduate, and Diana Zambrotta, a Davidson graduate, have performed in several off-Broadway productions in the past several years.

Carole Bundy will serve as musical director and Diana Vance as technical director. Both recently retired from Hilliard schools and worked closely with the Brennemans in the performing arts at Hilliard schools.

Premium tickets are $125 and include a reception beginning at 5 p.m., as well as premium seating for the performance at 7 p.m.

Standard tickets are $25.

Tickets may be purchased online at showtix4u.com or by phone at 866-967-8167.

Tickets also may be purchased at the door beginning at 2 p.m. on show day. Major credit cards will be accepted.
