Darby to stage 'unusual love story' Feb. 1-2
Hilliard Darby High School will present the dramatic play David and Lisa this weekend at the high school performing arts center, 4200 Leppert Road.
Performances are set for 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, and Saturday, Feb. 2.
The play centers on a group of teenagers at a mental hospital, said director Justin Gates, a teacher at the high school.
Gates said he chose David and Lisa to provide his actors and actresses with a challenge.
"I wanted to give them material that makes them leave their comfort zone ... to act in a way they would not otherwise," Gates said.
Gates said the play is "an unusual love story" because David and Lisa meet at the mental hospital.
David is institutionalized because of a fear of being touched in any manner; Lisa has schizophrenia. One of her personalities speaks only in rhymes and finds a way to connect with David, who lets no one else close to him.
Jared McCollum will play David and Rachel Kijowski will play Lisa.
