Parents and guardians of children who will begin kindergarten this fall have until Feb. 25 to register online at hilliardschools.org and schedule an appointment to show required documents.
Last year, about 1,100 students registered for kindergarten in Hilliard City Schools.
Registration began late last month, but through Feb. 11, about 750 children, or roughly two-thirds of the expected number, had been registered.
"We're kind of concerned the number is so low at this point," said Kim Halley, director of elementary education for Hilliard City Schools.
Children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30 can be registered.
Parents or guardians also are asked to schedule an in-person meeting at the district's compliance center, adjacent to the administrative offices at 5323 Cemetery Road. They are required to show proof of residency in the school district, the child's birth certificate and immunization record.
A screening will be scheduled in March for school staff members to meet and assess the child, completing the enrollment process.
