'The Pajama Game'
Bradley to stage its own revival of classic musical
The Hilliard Bradley High School drama department will present The Pajama Game April 19 and 20 in the high school's performing arts center at 2800 Walker Road.
The musical is based on 7 1/2 Cents, a novel by Richard Bissell, and centers on a labor dispute at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory where the employees' demands for a raise are being ignored. The original Broadway production of the musical opened in 1954 and it was revived in 1973 and 2006.
The plot includes a developing romance between Babe, the woman who is head of the factory's grievance committee, and Sid, the factory's new superintendent.
Senior Rachel Pendleton-Russell will play Babe and senior Shane Cornell will play Sid.
Other primary cast members include senior Christian Colasante as Hines and junior Megan Hennes as Gladys.
Drama director Luke Bovenizer and assistant theater director Kate Carney will share directing duties.
"I adore every piece of music in this show and am pleased Bradley can share this classic tale with our modern audience," Bovenizer said.
The score features such standards as Hey There, Steam Heat and Hernando's Hideaway.
Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20.
General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
