Hilliard Optimists honor students

The Hilliard Optimists announced the honorees of the 2013 Optimist Awards.

Students are selected by the teachers and staff of each of the middle schools and high schools. Recipients are:

* Jack Rogers and Madeline Conklin of Memorial Middle School.

* Lauren Iosue and Justin Fugitt of Heritage Middle School.

* Kyle Porter and Samantha Schonhardt of Weaver Middle School.

* Karlee Heheman, Saad Asim, Amanda Fodor and Chris Kramb of Bradley High School.

* Nicholas Powers, David Dennis, Jake Stacey and Emily Krumpe of Darby High School.

* Lindsay Schad, Raphael Melke, Rida Mansoor and Jarrett Kenny of Davidson High School.

In addition, Hannah Hunt and John Hall were the winners of the 2013 Oratorical Contest. They received $250 cash prizes from Hilliard Optimists. Second place winners Casey Bauchmoyer and Nicole Hampton received $150, and third place winners Rachel Jakes and Yash Somani received $100.

The 2013 Essay Contest winner was Jennifer Morris. She was awarded $250 at the youth appreciation banquet, held Sunday, May 5, at Memorial Middle School.

Second place and $150 were awarded to Emily Burkhart, and Isaac Green earned third place and $100 from Hilliard Optimists.
