Agents from the Columbus district of the Drug Enforcement Agency arrested 16 people early June 10 at multiple locations just south of Hilliard.
The arrests occurred as part of a long-term investigation of heroin trafficking. The investigation is continuing, an agent said June 18.
Seven kilograms of heroin and an undisclosed amount of cash were seized at "more than two locations" all in the 1700 block of Messner Drive and the 1700 block of Ridgebury Drive, in a complex just west of Hilliard-Rome Road and Westchester Woods Boulevard.
The agent described the heroin seizure as "significant" and confirmed it originated from Mexico drug cartels.
The 16 people taken into custody June 10 will be prosecuted in U.S. District Court. Specific federal charges are pending, but are likely to include heroin trafficking.
Charges against additional suspects are possible as the investigation continues, the agent said.
