Hilliard school board

McIlwain hired as new Darby athletics director

Hilliard school board members Aug. 12 approved a contract for the new athletics director for Hilliard Darby High School.

Nicholas McIlwain started Aug. 1 as the athletics director for Darby and its feeder school, Heritage Middle School.

Board members approved a three-year contract with an annual salary of $81,000 and a benefits package worth $21,448.

McIlwain succeeds Chad Schulte, who accepted a position as student services coordinator at Darby.

"It's been a whirlwind," McIlwain told board members Aug. 12. "I've heard so much about Hilliard schools being a family and that's what it felt like ... I'm looking forward to a great year."

McIlwain most recently was athletics director and assistant principal at Johnstown-Monroe High School.

Board members approved a consent agenda, including the hire of McIlwain, by a 4-0 vote. Doug Maggied was absent.

In other action at the Aug. 12 meeting, board members approved the treasurer's report for June 2013 and bus routes for the current school year.

Rich Boettner, director of technology for Hilliard schools, provided a brief report at the request of the board concerning the district's preparedness for data protection in the event of a natural disaster.

Boettner said data is backed up at least weekly, and in many cases daily, among the district's approximately 60 data storage systems. He said copies of district data are stored off-site.
