Hilliard: Radar trailer damaged on Schirtzinger

Hilliard police said a solar-powered radar trailer owned by Norwich Township was vandalized about a week ago in the 4000 block of Schirtzinger Road.

Norwich Township Road Superintendent Steve Montgomery reported the vandalism at the Aug. 6 Norwich trustee meeting, saying it occurred late Aug. 3 or early Aug. 4.

A large rock was thrown at the remote device that measures and displays the speed of passing vehicles, police said.

It appeared the vandals also wanted the solar-powered battery inside the trailer, Montgomery said.

Damage is estimated at $3,500, police said.

Montgomery told trustees he is soliciting bids to repair the device.
