Elia Rogers, 5, of Clintonville, pets a corn snake named Pumpkin on Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Hilliard Fall Festival at Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park. The snake-handler, Nancy Lockard from Powell, brought turtles, snakes, geckos and other animals to the festival. She said Pumpkin is a designer corn snake, its color having been genetically altered to appear bright orange. If the snake were released into the wild, Lockard said, its bright color would make it an instant target for predators.
