Hilliard residents have a new number they should call for nonemergency police matters: 614-876-2429.
As of Jan. 13, the Northwest Regional Emergency Communications Center will receive all service calls for the Hilliard Division of Police. Calls to the other primary police line, 614-876-7321, will be routed there.
Based at the Dublin Division of Police headquarters, the dispatching center will use the regional name to reflect the services it provides to Dublin and Hilliard police and the Norwich Township and Washington Township fire departments.
The RECC has been dispatching 911 calls for fire suppression and EMS since Oct. 1, but Hilliard police dispatched nonemergency calls for service until Jan. 13.
The switch is expected to occur between 6 and 7 a.m. Jan. 13, as originally planned when Hilliard made the deal with Dublin, said Hilliard officer Hyda Slone.
Now, calls placed to 614-876-7321 for nonemergency calls, such as reporting a theft from a motor vehicle or property damage, will be received and dispatched from the RECC.
As a result of the switch, residents who need to speak to a specific officer, pick up a copy of a report or have questions about block watches, obtaining permits or other information should call 614-876-2429.
That number, Slone said, had been an alternative number with a limited public use, but will now be used for Hilliard residents to contact police for matters that do not require taking an active report.
