$300K bond set for man accused of murder

A Franklin County Municipal Court Judge set a $300,000 bond March 12 for the man charged with slaying a livery driver early last month.

Judge Ted Barrows set a $150,000 appearance bond and a $150,000 cash or surety bond for Brian Lee Jones, 41, who remains in the Franklin County jail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. March 21 in Municipal Court.

The case is expected to be transferred to the Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

Jones is charged with the murder of Paul D. Devitt, 49, whose body was discovered Feb. 4 under a trailer in the Hayden Heights mobile-park home in Washington Township.

Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott on March 11 said detectives had the evidence needed to charge Jones, whose last known address was in Hilliard, with the murder of Devitt, a Prairie Township resident.

Jones has been in custody at the Franklin County jail since he was arrested Feb. 6 on charges of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, and theft, a fourth-degree felony, after he was found in possession of Devitt's missing 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. Charges of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery were later added.
