Hilliard man arrested for pandering child pornography

A former assistant coach of a disabled-children's hockey team in Columbus was arrested on child-pornography charges last week in Hilliard.

Matthew J. Kiernan, 28, of 5602 Medinah Dr., Apt. B, in Hilliard, was charged with one count each of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor and pandering obscenity involving a minor. Both are felonies.

Members of the Franklin County Internet Crimes Against Children task force searched his apartment April 3 after determining that child pornography was possessed there and had been distributed through the Internet from there, according to a news release from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Kiernan admitted he had been downloading and viewing child pornography for a decade, according to the release.

Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Scott VanDerKarr set bond for Kiernan at $100,000 and he has since posted bond and been released.

Kiernan is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Kiernan has been an assistant coach with the Ohio Blades, a team that allows disabled children to play hockey by using sleds.

It wasn't clear when Kiernan last worked as a coach with the Ohio Blades.
