Hilliard recognizes fallen officers May 15

The Hilliard Division of Police will recognize National Peace Officers Memorial Day with a ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at First Responders Park, at Center and Main streets in Old Hilliard.

Police Chief Doug Francis and Mayor Don Schonhardt are scheduled to speak at the ceremony to honor Ohio police officers killed in the line of duty in the past 12 months.

One officer in Ohio will be memorialized: Jonathan Long of the Akron Police Department died Aug. 15, 2013, from injuries sustained in a car accident during a pursuit.

At past ceremonies, Hilliard officers tolled a bell, read the names of officers who died in the line of duty and placed a ceremonial wreath.
