The Hilliard Arts Council will kick off its 2014 summer concert series at 7p.m. Sunday, June 29, with a performance by the guitar duo Rockbridge Crossing and will conclude Sept. 13 with a performance by the Greater Columbus Community Orchestra.
"Our goal is to get a variety of performers, something for everyone, and we think we've done that," said Robin Brenneman of the Hilliard Arts Council. "But we are aware of our demographic and try to make sure we are getting performers our patrons will enjoy."
Most concerts will be at the gazebo adjacent to the Northwest Franklin County Historical Society, 5274 Norwich St.
Several artists in the lineup will be returning favorites, Brenneman said, including Mrs. Sparkles, a composer and performer of children's music also known as Deborah Taylor, a retired Hilliard elementary school teacher.
Mrs. Sparkles will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at the gazebo on Norwich Street.
A new act this year will be the Dewdroppers, an instrumental and vocal band performing in ragtime and jazz style.
"I'm excited about the show," Brenneman said. "One of our actors turned us on to it."
The Dewdroppers will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the gazebo on Norwich Street.
Another new artist in the lineup will be Tim Julian and Friends.
An actor for the arts council, Julian and his bandmates perform as a tribute band to the late John Denver.
Tim Julian and Friends will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at the gazebo on Norwich Street.
All concerts will have free admission.
