Binns Elementary School open house, honoring teacher Sharon Pennell, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 26 at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 1100 S. Hague Ave. The fifth-grade classes of 1967 and 1968 at Binns are hosting this event to reminisce with Pennell, who taught at Binns and Wayne Avenue elementary schools. The 13th annual Hilliard 5K Run/Walk Nite Classic, 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park, 3800 Veterans Memorial Drive. The entry fee is $25 before July 17, $30 after. The event supports the Hilliard Davidson cross-country teams.

Heart of Ohio Tole Chapter, 34th annual convention "Hats Off to Painting," Aug. 11-16 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, 400 N. High St., Columbus. As part of the event, the chapter will offer painting classes in a variety of skill levels and mediums. A catalog of classes, with registration information, is available at heartofohiotole.org. Friends of the Shelter, PupArt, 6 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Drive. The event will feature music, art, appetizers and wine. Guests can take part in a silent auction of pet-related and other original artwork and meet adoptable dogs. Proceeds help support sick and injured dogs at the Franklin County Dog Shelter. AARP Foundation Senior Community Service Employment Program helps unemployed Franklin, Delaware and Licking county workers age 55 and over secure employment. The program offers paid work experience, specialized training, upgrading of skills and job-search assistance. Age, income and residency requirements apply.
