Britton-Lyman connector road named for Meeks

A new road connecting Britton Parkway and Lyman Drive will be named in honor of Economic-Development Director David Meeks.

A ribbon-cutting for the new service road, David Meeks Way, and a grand opening for a new McDonald's at 4280 Cemetery Road, are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1.

The ribbon-cutting for David Meeks Way is scheduled for 10 a.m.; the grand opening for McDonald's is set for 10:30 a.m.

David Meeks Way will connect Britton Parkway and Lyman Drive to provide access to the new McDonald's restaurant at Britton Parkway and Cemetery Road and the Speedway at Lyman Drive and Cemetery Road.

The new McDonald's, which is scheduled to open Aug. 1, is replacing the old restaurant at the other corner of Lyman Drive and Cemetery Road. The old building is expected to be demolished within the next 30 days, according to city officials.

Meeks said he was surprised to learn the road will be named in his honor.

Meeks did not know of the honor until Service Director Butch Seidle on July 28 publicly announced it.

"I'm humbled and honored," said Meeks, who has been the city's economic-development director since May 2002.
