Keith Heitzman, who helped guide the Hilliard Davidson High School football team to its second Division I state title in four seasons last year, will play at the collegiate level next fall.

Heitzman, a senior defensive end and tight end, has verbally committed to attend Vanderbilt University. He received 11 offers, and noted he chose Vanderbilt over Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and several Mid-American Conference schools.

"Vandy was always ahead of everyone else by a lot," Heitzman said. "I was looking for a strong academic school. They're in the SEC and Nashville in general is a great place. I thought it was an easy decision."

Davidson coach Brian White noted Heitzman's reward of earning a Division I scholarship is a result of hard work.

National signing day is Feb. 2.
